Speed Scrap

My apologies to the makers of these perfectly good kits for the butchery I inflicted in my first speed scrap. I forgot it started at 3, and when I chimed in I saw that all the instructions had been given, so I had to hustle my butt to catch up. Here is my contribution following these steps:

-
Pick one and only one photo to use for this layout...
-Pick 3 papers to use in your layout
-Look through your stash and find your favorite "bling" element and use it in your layout.
-Let's try framing the one and only photo you are using... frame it with a frame or even some fantastic elements..! Also, let's 'visibly' stick the photo and/or elements to the page; use some staples or tape or stitching or photo corners or a fastener.
-For this layout, NOTHING can be exactly vertical or exactly horizontal! Everything has to be tilted one way or another (except your background paper, but extra points if you can tilt that too)!!
-Let's talk words.. or titles. Title your layout but only use ONE word and ONE alpha (or font).. and.. and.. hmmm.. the word can't be more than 5 letters long!
-At least 1 but no more then 2 of your layout corners has to have some kind of element or element cluster. They can be off the page (peeking onto your layout) or wholly on the page.
-Pick just ONE more element to add to your layout to make it a masterpiece!

So where one is supposed to have time to get it step by step, I was cramming for the test. The results...not my best...but I will redeem myself!

This was truly fun and I won another free kit from Kami during the chat afterward. Thanks Kami..look below the layout here to see it...

Fall Colors in So. Florida?

Here in South Florida we don't get the typical change of colors in fall, but tonight's sunset did a pretty good job! This was such a nice surprise after a dreary day of clouds and rain.

This next one is from the year I went to DC and hit the blooming cherry blossoms perfectly. We won't talk about the year I went and it sleet sideways with winds that blew the umbrella inside out...no we won't talk about that year! LOL!!!
Journaling reads: Saw the usual sights...and then around the corner there was this beautiful garden with a stately entrance...ended up spending a good amount of time here in this quiet, uncrowded respite.

A favorite recipe

Here is a standby I make alot. Perfect for cool fall weather. It's a simple dump-it-on style dessert...really good topped with ice cream. I put one in the oven just today. It is best while still warm.

1 can (15 oz) solid-pack pumpkin
1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk
3 eggs
1 cup sugar
4 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
1 package yellow cake mix
3/4 cup butter, melted
1-1/2 cups chopped walnuts
Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream

In a large mixing bowl, beat first five ingredients until smooth.
Transfer to a greased 13-in. x 9-in. baking pan.
Sprinkle with dry cake mix and drizzle with butter.
Top with walnuts.
Bake at 350° for 1 hour or until a knife inserted near the center comes out clean. Serve with ice cream or whipped cream.

I feel extremely fortunate

... today regarding the distance Hurricane Ike kept passing by here. And I feel spoiled...I haven't had nearly enough time to scrap in recent weeks and waiting for Ike to pass has given me a gloriously extra long weekend of staying indoors. So of course I am a scrappin fool. I found this freebie from BonScrapatit. Downloads come daily in small increments so it is fun waiting to see what is next. The entire LO is from It's Falling. This is a perfect example of how to use low res photos...

Another way to use Free Spirit...I love the watery element to the alpha and swirls.

Got a few more kits to play with

I have been busy playing with my two newest kits. First off, take a look at this stunner... Chilled Wine from mgl Scraps and Sugarplum Paperie. I am imagining a ton of possibilities with this one. The preview shows it all...it's a must have! Get it here.

Here is my first LO featuring it...it got a blog award for Layout of the Day on Sunshine Studios.

KIT CREDITS: Paper, frame and leaves (recolored) from Chilled Wine by mgl Scraps and Sugarplum Paperie; clear alpha which is from Free Spirit by Franziska Altmann and MGL Scraps collab.; wings from Kit Asas de Anjo by Scrapsuper; "stamped" type is directly from the dictionary.

Free Spirit is another collab of mgl Scraps and Franziska Altmann. Give this kit a real close look...it comes with plenty of papers pre-layered with cardboard or curling edges. Plus a gorgeous acrylic alpha! This is one you will go back to again and again. Get it here. My first LO with it is below.

Still Scrappin

Looks like Ike will most likely be just a glancing bump onto the Keys. I think Natalie's poster did the trick! (see Sept. 6 entry) Here are a couple more LO's I did Sunday. I was going through the old photos recently and found a bunch of old papers related to my Bluebird Days.

Nat's contribution...

KIT CREDITS: Toxic Pop by mgl Scraps and MB Designs

I am on a scrapping tear! It is better than eating everything in sight and constantly staring at the Weather Channel. Oh, I learned a new effect..I can make stickers from shaped elements and text:

Needed to scrap

I have found a great stress reliever...scrapping! It's better than snacking. As soon as I could carve aside a little time I worked on a couple layouts. I am pretty sure we are evacuating this weekend from "Ike" and wanted to get a couple in before shutting everything down. I hope when we return that we will have power and everything still standing. ** UPDATE...In true hurricane season fashion, things can change rapidly, and with it now tracking much further south, we may end up staying. A decision tonight or early tomorrow, I think.

Here is one from Becky Vosburg's Fruity Freshness.

Feels like Christmas morning...

I admit...I am shameless. But it paid off. I very humbly (phah...yeah, right!) asked Monica at MGL Scraps...yeah THAT Monica (O great designer extraordinaire) if she would consider letting me CT someday...Well, I was thrilled when she asked me to guest for Sept. So I mosied (no, RAN) over to her store and got this awesome kit, Toxic Pop- a collab with Melissa Bennett. Here's a peek. I can't wait to take this one for a spin. Keep reading...it gets better...

I got this from Becky-announcing her girls to the digiworld! They are great to us over at Oscraps...PLUS I have an added incentive-ANOTHER free collab kit from the whole team over there...Oh my..I had better get crackin! Assuming Ike doesn't require me to leave next week, I will have the weekend to play...I'm really NOT in the mood to deal with that now!

So, here we all are! I look forward to seeing what everyone comes up with:
